How should I give water to my cat?

My 10 year old male cat had a stroke a few months ago and he doesn't seem to be getting better. Lately he even started avoiding water! Because the therapy he's getting depends on the circulation of water in his organism (tablets that he's receiving stimulate adrenal glands, and thus are meant to reduce the swelling on his brain), is there a way for me to give him water? How about a syringe? If I can use it, how much water should I give him?
