Individuals born with congenital adrenal hyperplasia have a mutation which leads to a deficiency of the steroidogenic cytochrome P450 21‐α‐h ydroxylase. In females, this syndrome is apparent at birth due to the presence of ambiguous genitalia. In males, mild cases may go undiagnosed until adulthood when it can be a cause of infertility due to insufficient sperm production.
